Welcome to The Trading Circle

The Trading Circle

Four Brave Women is an initiative of The Trading Circle that works to empower refugees to be able to operate and grow their own small business in an inclusive and well-supported environment. The aim is to give refugees a live experience of working in a commercial kitchen, serving customers and managing the day-to-day running of a small business in Australia. After a cycle of eight weeks, the goal is for them to gain enough capital and knowledge to branch out and establish a business of their own.

The menu will change every eight weeks as a new group of chefs serves a range of delicious meals inspired by their own cultural heritage.

We now welcome the Matheel, Ada, Adel and Vivian into the kitchen as they cook up an array of Iraqi cuisine! They also run a catering business, Soul of Baghdad, and are excited to be able to share their biryani, falafel, stews and other dishes with the Four Brave Women community. Stay up to date on our Facebook page as they change the menu daily and are passionate about introducing new options to their menu and sharing new flavours with their customers.

Soul of Baghdad are serving lunch Mondays to Saturdays 12 pm to 3 pm and dinner Fridays and Saturdays 5:30 pm to 9 pm.

Next door we now have the Four Brave Women pop-up bakery where Yulia, Yana, Eptsam and Zara are baking delicious Ukrainian, Iranian, Syrian and Russian sweets and savoury pastries Mondays to Saturdays.

Q) Can I make a reservation?

A) We now take bookings for both lunch and dinner for groups of 10 or more people.

Q) Do you offer BYO?

A) BYO is now available for both lunch and dinner. There is no corkage fee.

Q) How does it work?

A) Lunch and dinner is served buffet style where you can walk through once and help yourself to each of the dishes on offer. You can choose from three sizes of meals: Small $11, Medium $14 or Large $17 which are all available as take-away or dine-in. The bakery is self serve as well where you can fill a plate, tray or gift box up with an array of sweets and pastries.

Q) Do you offer vegetarian/vegan/gluten free/halal/dairy free options?

A) We do our best to cater for most dietary requirements whilst trying to remain true to the original recipes that the chefs have brought from their home countries. Currently our lunch and dinner menu is mostly vegan and gluten free and is all halal. Our bakery has a few options that are vegan or gluten free. Our baristas use Fair Trade and Organic coffee from Sacred Grounds and have full cream, skim, soy, almond and coconut milk on offer.

Q) Why is everything served in disposable packaging and why buffet style?

A) One of our goals with Four Brave Women is to create the space and time for the chefs to easily engage with customers and to build community through the sharing of cuisine, culture and conversation.

We have an open kitchen where food is served straight from the oven to the buffet which means that you can see the effort and ingredients that go into making each meal and you can ask the chefs questions about the entire process as they are cooking.

Serving everything in disposable packaging means that the chefs are not stuck in the kitchen plating up meals or washing dishes. Instead they are able to spend lunch and dinner chatting to customers as they work and gaining the extra skills that will help them run a business in Australia including improving their English, customer service, cash handling and more.

Despite using disposable packaging we are conscious of the environment. All of our packaging - from cutlery to coffee lids to plates to garbage bags - are made from plants and recycled materials, are low carbon and 100% compostable. We send all of our used packaging away with a waste company that takes it to a giant composting facility where it gets turned into green energy and mulch.

Q) Do you do catering or can we hire Four Brave Women as a venue for a function or party?

A) We do catering for external events and our caterers can provide a range of cuisines including Iraqi, Ukrainian and Georgian.

We also do internal catering and can provide the space for private functions for groups of 25 people or more on Monday to Thursday nights or Sunday days and nights.
