Paraguay, Teko Joja Kuņa Rembiapope, Asuncion
Teko Joja Kuņa Rembiapope and the Cooperative of the Weavers of Ņanduti were established by the Good Shepherd Sisters in Asuncion, Paraguay, to assist poor craftswomen to earn a fair price for their work. Besides the weaving of the Ņanduti (or spider web) weave traditional to the women of Paraguay, the women also do the ao poi embroidery on tableware and clothing. A community of the Maca indigenous people of Paraguay weave colourful bags and backpacks.

Activity Book with two dolls
The two dolls on the cover of this cloth book detach and the child can create his or her own story around their activities. The book is designed to help in the development of fine motor skills: the child has to undo zips, press studs and buttons and tie bows. Because there are small items (a button, for example) which could be swallowed, children under the age of three should be supervised when using this book.
Price: $30.00

Ņanduti Doily
This work of art by the Ņanduti (spiderweb) weavers of Paraguay measures 45 cm in diameter. It can be a beautiful table centre - or you may prefer to have it framed! The work is done by hand on to a cloth on a frame. When the work is complete the cloth is cut away and the piece is starched and ironed. The doilies come in various colours - some have a predominance of blue, some of orange, some of red. All are beautiful. This photo does not do justice to the delicacy of the work. If you are near one of our shops in Melbourne, Sydney of Brisbane, please call in and have a look at this beautiful work. Please e-mail goodshep@hotkey.net.au if you have a preference for a dominant colour.
