Peru, Agustina Rivas Workshop La Florida

The nineteen members of this workshop came originally from the Valley of the Perene River, a district adjacent to La Florida in the Chanchamayo province of the Junin constituency. They were forced to flee their homes because of drug trade related violence and now live in squatter camps on the fringes of Lima.
On 5 September 1999, they met together to form a small enterprise so that they could supplement their meagre family incomes. At present they meet in the commuhity of Magdalena where they have been allocated a workshop. Here they produce a variety of products - crocheted, embroidered and knitted items, leatherwork, blankets and jewellery.
